MANAGERS PLEASE NOTE:
REVISED "KEY FOR COLVILLE" RULES
"KEY" on schedule means your team is responsible for picking up the key, unlocking and relocking ALL GATES at the Colville Road Diamonds.
This year for the nightly opening of Colville fields the following rules will apply for the responsibility of picking up the key and opening and securing ALL GATES on the field with the exception of the main double gate, unless needed for handicapped persons.
This also entails securing ALL GATES at the end of the evening and or assigning the remaining team manager at the field this responsibility.
The team manager on the schedule is the person we will be in touch with if anything goes amiss.
If you as the manager cannot attend a game please assign it to your most trusted man.
If your team cannot make a game refer to the schedule for you are still responsible to assign that key to a team that may be playing.
You are ultimately the person responsible. The fields must be opened no later then 5:45 and the key must be returned to the Naden gym by 9:30.
We must adhere to these rules as there was too much miscommunication in past years.
ALSO ...
Jumping the fence at Colville WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
It is your responsibility to let your team members know this rule.
If you are caught jumping over or under the fences at anytime you will receive a one game suspension, twice caught, three games and if you have not learned by then your whole team will be suspended for a game.
This may sound harsh but we will lose the fields if we do not obey these rules.
The Department of National Defence has asked us to implement rules to insure this happens. They will also be monitoring Colville fields.
Please govern yourselves and your teams accordingly.
LEAGUE STANDINGS
The League Standings will automatically be up to date as long as all scores are submitted.
It is the responsibility of each team, whether you win or lose, to enter the score after each game, but only one team needs to do so.
When you shake hands after the game, Managers need to decide which team will submit the score to the website.
THANK YOU SPONSORS!
There is a new addition to our website, a link to showcase those who sponsor teams in our league. If you wish to advertise your sponsor on this page please email your sponsors' logo to the webmaster.
The link, which is in the left column navigation, is: Team Sponsors.
ASA APPROVED BATS
The Executive will continue to look into the bat safety issue as safety is our prime concern.
The following bats are not approved for use in VMMSL games:
Miken DC 41
Combat Centenarian
Miken 2
Miken Ultra 2
Miken Maxload
Jak'd Nemesys 1
Jak'd Nemesys 2
Jak'd Blackout
Any bats used in the VMMSL must have the ASA approved sticker on them. This is an honour system and we certainly expect all managers, coaches and players to abide by the Executive decision.
Teams will be permitted to use their existing bats except of course the ones listed above.
Thanks ... Mel Smith, Bat Coordinator

INELIGIBLE / NON-ROSTERED PLAYERS
It has come to the League's attention that there are some teams that have been and possibly may have been breaching our league constitution that clearly states the Victoria Men's Masters League will not allow men under 40 years of age to participate in any league games or tournaments deemed Men's Masters over 40, under any circumstances.
These ineligible players will not be insured and all liability lies with the offending team if any member of either team is injured.
If any coach or manager clearly thinks that a player is under age or not rostered, the opposing coach or manager has a right to:
Protest the game and refuse to play until proper ID is shown with pic and birthdate;
Ask for a copy of their roster and reference the name birthdate and phone number of the player;
If you are a B Division team protest to your umpire and he will deal with it.
If you have exhausted the above options please send a formal protest to the league and it will be dealt with in a timely manner.
EFFECTIVE THURSDAY, JUNE 5, 2008
Gents, because of complaints, new bats and a short fence, the home run rule for the A Division at Juan De Fuca will now read as follows:
First ball over the fence is a homerun. All other balls over the fence will be deemed a strike. When an A Division team plays a B Division team the new rule will be in effect for the A Division team only.

C DIVISION “RUN-BY” RULE
The Run-By Rule is officially incorporated into the Victoria Men’s Masters Slopitch League to provide a SAFE, no-contact game for those C Division teams wishing to use this rule. Teams will decide to use the rule or not. If one team wants to use the rule then it must be used.
It is a common sense rule and the details below are guidelines for game umpires to make decisional calls when the rule is in use.
Standard league rules involving the base runner and plays at first base do not change when the Run-By Rule is in use.
In all cases, the maximum distance for running by shall be 3 feet inside or outside of the base with the exception of home plate where a minimum of 5 feet to the outside of home plate will be required.
When a ball is hit to the infield or outfield and a runner is advancing:
Runner advancing from 1st base to 2nd base:
If the runner does not intend to advance to 3rd base during the play, the runner will run by (not touching) 2nd base, on the opposite side of the base from the ball in play, so as not to come between the ball in play and the defensive player. Neither the base runner nor the defensive player shall interfere with each other. The runner must make every attempt to avoid interfering with defensive player attempting a throw to 1st base in the event a double play is being attempted. The runner will then return to 2nd base and await the next play.
Runner advancing from 1st base to 2nd base with intent to advance:
If the runner decides to advance to 3rd base while running to 2nd base during the play as it is obvious a play at 2nd base is not likely, he must tag the base on his way by as per normal rules. Neither the base runner nor the defensive player shall interfere with each other.
Runner advancing from 1st base to 2nd base
with intent to advance after run-by:
If the runner decides to advance to 3rd base after he has already run by 2nd base then the runner must return to and touch 2nd base before proceeding to 3rd base. Neither the base runner nor the defensive player shall interfere with each other.
Runner advancing from 2nd base to 3rd base:
If the runner does not intend to advance to home during the play, the runner will run by (not touching) 3rd base on the opposite side of the base from the ball in play, so as not to come between the ball in play and the defensive player. Neither the base runner nor the defensive player shall interfere with each other. The runner will then return to 3rd base and await the next play.
Runner advancing from 2nd base to 3rd base with intent to advance:
If the runner decides to advance home while running to 3rd base during the play as it is obvious a play at 3rd base is not likely, he must tag the base on his way by as per normal rules. Neither the base runner nor the defensive player shall interfere with each other.
Runner advancing from 2nd base to 3rd base
with intent to advance after run-by:
If the runner decides to advance to home plate after he has already run by 3rd base, then the runner must return to and touch 3rd base before proceeding home. Neither the base runner nor the defensive player shall interfere with each other.
Runner advancing from 3rd base to home:
The runner will run by and not touch home plate. The runner is to run by home plate on the right side of the plate so as to keep clear of the back catcher and the ball in play.
Sliding into bases or home:
Sliding is not allowed unless returning to a base to avoid being tagged out.
Consequences for violations:
If the base runner does interfere with the defensive player, he will be called out. If the defensive player interferes with the base runner, the base runner will be awarded one base. Infractions are a judgement call on the part of the umpire.
If the umpire does not observe the infraction, he will so indicate and play will continue with no consequence.
In all cases, the judgement of the umpire will be final.
